Exploring the great outdoors is one of the top things to do in Lake Tahoe. Our lakeside oasis is a year-round destination, with a wide range of activities available to enjoy in summer, spring, and winter.
Hiking and biking through the many state parks and mountains surrounding the lake are staples in the spring and summer months, along with a bevy of exciting lake activities. You can rent a boat, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards or relax on one of the beaches on the California side of the lake.
During the winter months, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowboarding are the activities of choice. There are many great ski slopes in the area, in addition to trails for snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
Emerald Bay State Park
Emerald Bay State Park is a must-see during your visit to Lake Tahoe. There are several top-notch hiking trails that take you to Eagle Lake and Eagle Falls (both the upper and lower falls). The breathtaking views are second to none in the area, so make sure you bring your camera to capture the scenery. You can also see the historic Vikingsholm property at the base of the park’s lakeshore.
D.L. Bliss State Park
D.L. Bliss State Park sits a few minutes north of Emerald Bay and features some of the most beautiful shoreline along the lake. Balancing Rock Nature Trail and Rubicon Trailhead allow you to explore the beautiful hills leading you to Lester Beach and the Rubicon Point Light.
If you want to enjoy a variety of things to do in Lake Tahoe, head to King’s Beach. This charming town on the north end of Lake Tahoe is home to a beautiful stretch of sand and a handful of fun local restaurants. Whether you rent a paddleboard or kayak from North Tahoe Watersports, lay down a towel on the beach and read your favorite book, and walk into town to grab a bite to eat, the options here are endless!
Skiing is the most popular winter activity in Lake Tahoe. There are dozens of slopes gracing the mountains surrounding the lake, with places like Squaw Valley Resort offering some of the best skiing in the area (home to the 1960 Winter Olympics). If it’s good enough for the Winter Olympics, we know you’ll love it.
